Lighter menu on rainbow themes

I'm trying a lighter style for the top menu, because the bold menu text was starting to feel quite chunky. I've changed the CSS for this site by hand. If you like it, I'll apply this to all the Rainbow themes.

My opinion is that the previous one was better. They are kind of "headings" after all so they should be a little larger than other text. What if only the drop down menu text was lighter?

There is something about the heavier font that disturbs me, but I'm not quite sure what it is. When I come to a new site that uses one of the themes, the theme seems to overwhelm the site, and those heavy menus are the main reason, I think. Whatever, perception.
On this site http://techblog-template.wikidot.com/ they seem to work nicely.
OK, I'll hold off on making this change to the themes.

I think the theme is near perfect as it is, at least for my use. Instead, what would be useful is a little more wider selection of colors. I unfortunately am not that familiar with css that I could do a mixture of my own for my site.
There are the gray variations and more colorful ones but only a few in between. The brownish green "late harvest" is something I'm talking about but it's a little too "dirty" for my taste.

I'll make you more colors, np. You can see for the Minimalist set I made a wider range of colors.
It is actually quite easy to customize by editing three graphics, and setting three color values in the CSS. But if you suggest some color combinations you'd like I'll make them. Next week, when I have some time.

Try Adobe Kuler:

It's easy to find colors that compliment each other (especially when you have no eye for design like me!)

Hi Pieter!
Thanks for the offering, I actually already found out how to change the text colors but I don't know how to change the top bar background image. It seems that it's a 1px wide image that's stretched to full width. If you can tell me how to change it, I think I could be able to do it myself and also test some color variations.
Here's something I was thinking about: http://treenipankki.wikidot.com/customcolors
Ed, this also looks quite handy: http://colorschemedesigner.com/

@jjs: ok, this is a good exercise in basic graphics work. There are three images; download them and open in a graphics editor like Gimp. Zoom in 600% or so. Now change the colors to suit. Then pick dark/light colors and insert into your CSS.
