Developing a module for Wikidot

I am interested in developing a module for Wikidot.
What I have in mind is to add the Sortable feature to tables that use the Wikidot syntax. Seeing how this doesn't get added and it really would come in handy I thought I might give it a try.
What I am thinking right now is using such a module to add the sortable feature to the columns of the table enclosed by it.
Yes, I know of the workaround but I don't like using iframes. It's messy, takes a while to load, needs CSS rewritten for it, and it's difficult to maintain.
