The specific properties you can use on a text field:

  • width: specifies the visible field width in columns (fixed spaced characters, more or less).

That "more or less" is meant pretty liberally.

For example, I've set a field to width: 76

  • in safari, that presents as ~635px
  • in firefox, it's ~570px
  • in chrome and IE, it's ~555px

I assume these widths vary with whatever font the browser uses. Is there a way to fix their width more specifically?
