Usability problem

When the user tries to save the page and there are missing fields, the UI shows a message in red before each missing field: "Please supply a value for this field:"
Why before and not using position of other errors (for example "match" error)?
Also, using only light yellow background is not fair for some users (think color-blind or sight-deficient), additional visible indicator of * would be nice for them.
