The forum page seems awfully busy. So I've taken Squark's package (http://packages.wikidot.com/package:16) and applied that to the CSS on this site, and the forum-template site.
I know this is a bit shocking but it's an experiment, please try it for a while and see if it works. I'd like eventually to hide the toolbar on all comment editors, giving the user the choice of showing it.
(I've also removed the rating on threads, which is pointless.)
Instead of:
I would suggest this:
This shows just first line of buttons: H1, B, I, U, S, tt, Q, xy, xy, R
As each of buttons has its own class, in fact, you can decide very precisely which buttons to show.

Maybe the top line by itself is a compromise but for me, the fewer buttons the better.
If one selects individual buttons, can they also be re-arranged into a single line? One of the unpleasant aspects of the toolbar is that it takes three lines. It could be nice to define a better toolbar that drops the exotic buttons, keeps the useful ones, and puts them into one row.

Yes, replace the former propositions with this:
and you have all of buttons in one line. Then display: none on buttons you don't like and you're done.
