This is no criticism, I'm just wondering how it will work. This is what de description says
This module has the following functionality:
* It shows the user's avatar
* It allows the user to upload a new avatar
It shows the user's avatar
That could be cool… the module [[user xx]] get's extended with a picture. I can see that in a user-space-page when for example you wish to thank some person, or when you want to introduce yourself maybe.
It allows the user to upload a new avatar
That is the part where I don't see the use that you probably have in mind. Would this be an integration of this module in a user-space-page allowing him/her to change his/her avatar on for example on a page of some-else his/her site? Or is it only intended as a module you could integrate in the new profile-pages of a site.
Maybe some extra info on the use is needed. Is this by the way what you would call a Use-Case? Maybe some "possible" wikisytax of how it would be integrated in a page would do the trick. For example:
+++ Credits
I would like to thank @@[[module Avatar user="pieterh" size="46"]]@@
@@[[user pieterh]]@@ for all the support and help in creating my site.
As designed the Avatar module is for the current signed-in user only. Not a specified user.
Today it's not possible to put modules in-line as you show here. This is what Shane was referring to. So an Avatar module provides a block that has some content and functionality.
Shane, I was reflecting that perhaps what we want is a kind of embeddable profile, that includes the avatar but also signature, karma, and links recent comments & contributions. We'd probably want to use this on the per-site profile pages. We'd probably want to allow selection of specific users as Steven suggests.
What do you think? Can you elaborate your original use case, it was not really clear?
Portfolio
Well if you have a look at what I've done with the profile page template, you'll notice a few things:
So in my particular situation, an all-in-one profile module would make far less sense than to just have an avatar module on its own.
I can see how an all-in-one solution would help people that use the built-in forum system, or a hybrid like that found on the projects forum, though.
I was planning to use the Avatar module on this page: User Control Panel
Instead of the "Buddy icon/avatar" link leading to the wikidot profile menu, where the user then needs to click on a link called 'Buddy icon/avatar' before they are able to change their avatar, they would be able to do it on this UserCP page on my wiki instead.
And that reminds me… "My email address", "Change password" and "Delete account" also are not set up right on that page, as they don't link directly to the page that lets the user change their email, password, etc. In an ideal world, I'd have modules to change these as well, or at least, a way of linking directly to the pages on which they can be changed.
Being able to change the avatar within the wiki page is most useful, however, as I'm using avatars all over the place on the site :)
