This thread discusses the upcoming public bug tracker. bugs.wikidot.com is aimed at glueing together Wikidot users and developers. Today the discussions are dispersed over:
- The community forum, where users report bugs
- The blog, where users report bugs
- This projects forum, where users report bugs
- Responses and discussions on those threads, by devs
- Testcases and examples, on arbitrary sites
- The Changelog, where fixes are announced
The goal of this project is to group this into a single site. The bugs.wikidot.com site would additionally:
- Track progress on bugs, in a minimal fashion ("in progress" when a developer has started work on it)
- Educate users who report bugs to ensure the process works optimally
The main methodology of the bug tracker is "test driven development":
- Every bug is backed up by a reproducible test case
- The bug reporter makes the test case and reports the bug
- The developer will copy the test case to internal test machines as needed
- When the bug is pushed live, the reporter can prove it works
