This thread discusses the upcoming public bug tracker. bugs.wikidot.com is aimed at glueing together Wikidot users and developers. Today the discussions are dispersed over:

  • The community forum, where users report bugs
  • The blog, where users report bugs
  • This projects forum, where users report bugs
  • Responses and discussions on those threads, by devs
  • Testcases and examples, on arbitrary sites
  • The Changelog, where fixes are announced

The goal of this project is to group this into a single site. The bugs.wikidot.com site would additionally:

  • Track progress on bugs, in a minimal fashion ("in progress" when a developer has started work on it)
  • Educate users who report bugs to ensure the process works optimally

The main methodology of the bug tracker is "test driven development":

  • Every bug is backed up by a reproducible test case
  • The bug reporter makes the test case and reports the bug
  • The developer will copy the test case to internal test machines as needed
  • When the bug is pushed live, the reporter can prove it works
