We know the link to the files uploader is buried at the bottom of the page. For some wikis, I bet that's appropriate.
We've also got this handy button funtionality, which lets us locate a "files" button front-and-center. Even with the button, it still takes users three clicks to open the dialog window for selecting a file for upload.
- <click the file button> ……
- <click "upload a file from your computer"> (and that's not an obvious link: the page shifts down as far as possible, but since the module is at the bottom, it's not immediately clear where the user's eye is meant to focus) ……
- <click "Select Files">
Why not just one click? Is there a simple way to code a "select files" button, front-and-center, so it opens the dialog box directly and avoids the superfluous hunting and clicking?
It would be a good thing to have the file uploading area looked at and improved.
Can you explain (in detail) exactly how you envision this to look? e.g. For me, I'd like a pop up similar to the "new notification" popups that we get, that appears after clicking once on the files button or on 'files' at the bottom of the page.
From there, it's a matter of clicking on "select files"
The only option other than 'upload a file from your computer' is 'manage files' … which doesn't actually manage anything! :) It just shows the number of files you have, total space used, etc. IMO this could easily be moved to the site manager, or placed elsewhere, and thus would remove one of the clicks needed to upload something.

@Scottplan, I like this idea and it makes sense. I'm making an issue for it in our tracker.
